Heat kills batteries — a summer of 115°F storage will finish off a marginal lead-acid bank, which is why so many snowbirds arrive in October to a rig that won't hold 12 volts overnight. Full parks sag — in January, when every space in the Foothills is drawing heat pumps at 7 a.m., pedestal voltage can dip low enough to damage AC compressors and electronics; a good EMS with low-voltage cutoff is cheap insurance. And boondockers run real power systems now — the Imperial Dam LTVA and Quartzsite crowds run solar, lithium, and 3,000-watt inverters, which means small wiring mistakes turn into melted lugs. If your system was assembled across three owners and two decades, an afternoon of professional cleanup is worth more than any single new component.

RV Electrical FAQs
Half my outlets are dead but the lights work. What gives?
Lights are 12-volt; outlets are 120-volt — so your DC side is fine and the AC side has a fault. Check the breaker panel and any GFCI outlet (often in the bathroom — one tripped GFCI can kill outlets all over the rig). If those check out, it's likely the transfer switch or an inlet connection, which is meter work.
My batteries are new but die overnight. Why?
Either they're not actually charging (converter fault, blown reverse-polarity fuse, corroded cable) or something is draining them — propane detectors, stereo memory, and stuck relays add up, and one bad cell in a two-battery bank will drag down its partner. A tech can find a parasitic drain in under an hour with a clamp meter.
Can a mobile tech install lithium batteries and solar at my campsite?
Yes — battery, controller, and inverter work is bench-and-bay work that suits a mobile visit well, and roof panel installs are routine with safe roof access. Larger system builds may take a parts order and a second visit.
Do I need a surge protector at Yuma parks?
Strongly recommended. Peak-season parks run heavily loaded, and low voltage is as damaging as spikes. A portable or hardwired EMS that cuts off on bad power protects your AC compressor, converter, and electronics — it usually pays for itself the first time it trips.
Is RV electrical work safe to DIY?
Fuses, bulbs, and battery cleaning — sure, with care. Anything involving the shore power inlet, transfer switch, panel wiring, or inverter output belongs with someone insured for it; 120-volt mistakes in a metal-framed rig are how people get hurt.
